THE inaugural ASEAN Consumer Fair is a crucial venue to showcase and promote trade, tourism and investment opportunities in the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).
“This fair is an invaluable venue to showcase and promote the sub-region’s trade, tourism, investment, and many other opportunities all towards mutual advancement,” said Dato Paduka Hj Danial Hj Hanafiah, executive director of event management firm D’ Sunlit Sdn Bhd.
In a speech delivered at yesterday’s opening of the ASEAN Consumer Fair 2014, Dato Paduka Hj Danial said the event brings together a wide range of local and overseas exhibitors and their products and services to strengthen market awareness and business relations.
”The fair shows what ASEAN has to offer to its people and to the world,” he said.
Dato Paduka Hj Danial said the participation of local and overseas exhibitors affirmed the role of the Consumer Fair as an important platform for collaboration amongst policymakers and entrepreneurs within ASEAN and beyond.
Over 400 booths have been taken up by exhibitors from the regional bloc and across the globe including Iran and Uganda.
The fair showcased several products including traditional handicrafts, ethnic cuisine, mobile telephones and accessories and home décors.
The Consumer Fair, held at the International Convention Centre in Berakas, is the 14th edition of the popular bi-annual event.
But this is the first time that it’s also being held as an ASEAN regional expo.
The event is the premier trade and consumer event in Brunei. It attracts record breaking crowds and generating huge revenues for its participants.
The theme for this inaugural an nual ASEAN Consumer Fair is “Bringing the best of ASEAN and BIMP-EAGA to the world”. Participating countries include ASEAN member countries, China, Iran, Japan, Pakistan, Taiwan, and Uganda.
It was organised with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources.
More than four hundred exhibitors have opened their booths at the ASEAN Consumer Fair today, 25th of June 2014 at the International Conventional Centre in Berakas.
Minister of Industry and Primary Resources Yang Berhormat Pehin Dato Haji Yahya was at the venue today to officate the opening ceremony of the five-day expo.
THE ASEAN Consumer Fair 2014 was officially opened to the public today at the International Convention Centre.
Organised by D’Sunlit in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, the popular trade and consumer fair boasts over 400 booths with an extensive array of quality goods and services from the 10-member bloc as well as international exhibitors from as far as Iran and Uganda.
The expo was officially launched by the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Hj Yahya Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar.
It is held for five days from 10am to 10pm.

A NUMBER of Taiwanese companies will be showcasing their products at the upcoming ASEAN Consumer Fair 2014, which will be held at the International Convention Centre from June 25 to 29.
This was announced yesterday by the representative from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brunei Darussalam, Albert Huang, and Director Andy Chen at a press conference at Kaizen Sushi in the capital.
Ranging from fashion jewellery to skincare products, the 17 companies’ participation is one of the ways to support and strengthen the relationship between the Sultanate and Taiwan.
Huang also mentioned that Taiwan has played an active role in the economic and trade development of the Asia-Pacific Region and is highly willing to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
“Taiwan has the ability to perform and it can fulfil the conditions required,” said Huang.
THE Taipei Economic & Cultural Office has introduced the 17 Taiwanese companies that will be participating in the ASEAN Consumer Fair 2014 from June 25 to 29.
Visitors of the fair will be spoilt for choice with high quality products from Taiwan such as fashion jewellery, porcelain and ceramic goods on top of a wide range of teas, knick-knacks, appliances, skin care products, shoes and furniture.
